Our Instructors

Krista Faraday

Krista Faraday is the artistic director and owner of the Academy of Dance. She began dancing at the age of 3 at Enchainement Studio under the direction of Judy Russell in Prince George BC, and immediately fell in love with dance. She continued most of her dance training here in Kamloops and is well experienced in all styles including Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Contemporary. From a young age Krista competed in the Kamloops Festival of the Arts as well as competing throughout the Interior and Okanagan.

She has also performed at many events throughout the community including the BC Summer Games, and has traveled dancing with various performing groups. At a young age Krista began taking many workshops and classes throughout the lower mainland and Las Vegas. Krista became a dance instructor at the age of 15 and has also been involved with teaching choreography in local schools as well as for Project X Theatre. Currently Krista keeps her training up to date by attending workshops and conventions in Vancouver, and New York City.

Krista enjoys being able to enrich the lives of her students through dance and has a great passion for the art and her teaching. Recently, Krista has led her students to dance in Disneyland, California and New York City. Her team of students has been invited to perform on Broadway in NYC in Summer 2013. She looks forward to being able to pass on her knowledge to her students and provide them with a studio where they can grow as individuals while building confidence and fulfilling life long dreams.

Amanda McDermid

Amanda McDermid started dancing at the age of 3 in Chilliwack BC at the Fleeta Tutt School Of Dance, then in later years moved on to dance under the direction of Mr Barry Coulter.She has studied all styles of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. From a young age Amanda participated in competitions throughout the lower mainland and the interior of BC. Amanda started teaching dance at the age of 16 in 100 Mile house, since 2002 Amanda has taught for the Academy Of Dance. On top of teaching dance Amanda is also a certified Pilates instructor, bringing a wealth of body awareness and strength knowledge to her students.

Currently Amanda keeps her training up to date in Vancouver BC. Amanda has extreme passion for teaching and loves to share her knowledge with students to help them grow as dancers as well as individuals.

Katie Johnson

Katie Johnson has been dancing with the Academy for many years and is now a part of the staff.She is an energetic and kind hearted individual who fits right into our studio. Katie has taught classes for the Academy in Cache Creek, BC as well as at other community events. She has trained in Acro, Ballet, Jazz, Pointe, Hip Hop and Lyrical, and has performed in California, New York and throughout BC.

She has successfully competed in the Kamloops Festival of the Arts. Katie continues to keep up her training by participating in conventions and classes in the Interior, Vancouver and New York City. She has a B.A. in Psychology from Thompson Rivers University and is currently completing her Masters in Educational Counselling. Katie enjoys teaching dance and welcomes you to her class with a smile.

Lauren Nordstrom

Lauren Nordstrom is an enthusiastic instructor at the Academy of Dance. She has been dancing with us since the age of 13, and is experienced in a variety of disciplines, including Ballet, Lyrical, Jazz, and Hip Hop. Lauren has recently performed on Broadway in NYC and in Disneyland, California. She teaches the Creative Dance and Combo Dance programs, as well as Ballet and Musical Theatre. Lauren has completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Thompson Rivers University, is completing her Education degree at Thompson Rivers University, and also leads a youth group in the community.

Jasmin McDaniels

Jasmin McDaniels is a dedicated and energetic instructor at the Academy of Dance.She began dance a young age and has experience in Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical and Contemporary. Jasmin has competed throughout BC and has recently performed on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre and in Disneyland, California. Jasmin currently attends Thompson Rivers University and is working on completing her degree.

Sara Payette

Sara Payette started dancing at age 5 in Quesnel, BC. As a young dancer, Sara competed in BC as well as all over the United States.She was passionate about ballet from a young age and began attending the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's summer programs. In 1987, Sara was accepted into the National Ballet where she spent 4 years training. From the National, Sara went on to dance with the City Ballet School in Vancouver, under the direction of William Summer, as well as dancing for Visions Dance Company, under the direction of Suzie Green.

Throughout her professional performing career, Sara traveled to perform in Beijing, China as well as Cuba where she rehearsed and performed with the Cubana Ballet. In 1998 Sara was accepted as an apprentice for Ballet BC. At the end of her performing career, Sara started teaching Ballet and Lyrical to various age groups. She is excited to work with the students at the Academy of Dance and looks forward to helping them grow as dancers and to share the passion she feels for Ballet.

Andrew Cooper began his dance career by taking a Hip Hop class at Just For Kicks Dance Studio in Salmon Arm, BC at the age of sixteen. He competed throughout the Interior and the Okanagan the following year and soon after began teaching at the dance program in Salmon Arm Secondary and Just for Kicks Dance Studio. Andrew went on to train with the DalDance company at in Halifax, NS before returning to British Columbia to attend Thompson Rivers University. In 2010, Andrew became the founding Artistic Director of TRUDance, an on campus dance club for students.

Andrew graduated from TRU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts and English and soon after began teaching at the Dance Academy program at Brocklehurst Middle School. As a choreographer, Andrew’s work has been seen on the stages of Western Canada Theatre’s Stage One Theatre School, TRU’s Actors Workshop Theatre, Chimera Theatre and Project X Theatre. Andrew has been teaching at the Academy of Dance since 2014 and is very grateful for the opportunity to share his passion for dance with the students of Kamloops.
